BALLINCOLLIG YOUTHS

Winners: Murphy Youth Cup, AUL Division Two, Second Division Cup.

It has been a great year for the Ballincollig youths team and for their management duo Denis Campion and Mick Finn. After a slow start to the season, the second division high fliers came up with a fantastic treble: Murphy Youth Cup, AUL Division Two, Second Division Cup.

Manager Campion, also the general manager of the club’s thriving underage section, was delighted with the contribution from his assistant Finn. It is Mick’s first year with the club though he has helped out for several years with the local street leagues.

One of the best decisions they made during the season was moving Pat Healy from midfield to striker. The speedy youngster bagged no less than 34 goals and Denis is now looking forward to seeing Healy and company make their mark in the club’s junior and intermediate teams.

Campion and Finn made many a hard decision during the season but, according to Denis, the hardest one of all was deciding on the Player of the Year: “All the team performed excellently all season but at the end of the day, Mark Buckley pipped the rest and we gave him the award.”

The talented squad included: Mick Lordan (keeper), Jason “Benny” O’Leary, Ken Daly, Graham O’Connell, Mark Buckley, Denis Cronin, Adrian Searls (captain), Pat Healy, Dave Johnson, Dessie O’Leary, David Bradley, Rory Murphy, Evan Dorney, Mark Hilliard, Peter O’Gorman, Terry Yelverton, John Hickey, and John Walsh. Searls, Bradley, and Buckley, were all on the AUL youth panel.
