Ballinhassig 0 – 2 Ballincollig

Ballincollig travelled to Ballinhassig last Sunday knowing victory would give them the league title. This was always going to be a big task for our lads as in the past this fixture has always been a close affair. The first half Ballincollig played against the wind but were unlucky not to score when Conor Kelly’s effort just went over the crossbar. Ballincollig played some lovely football but Ballinhassig’s defence held firm leaving the score nil all at half time.
Ballincollig lifted their game in the second half and with the wind behind them it looked like it was only a matter of time before Ballinhassig’s net was found. Ten minutes into the second half Stephen Falvey was the man on target with a shot from the side line which took the keeper by surprise. The Ballincollig crowd went wild. Ballinhassig tried to get back into the game but were hit with for a second goal. Jason Murray collected the ball in midfield, went down the line and curled a great ball into the top corner of the net. This killed off any spirit that was left in the Ballinhassig team.
Ballincollig dominated the game to the end and victory was met with huge applause from the travelling fans. Ballincollig have one game left in the league but the title is already won. The team captain Colm Crowley was presented with the trophy by Cork Schoolboys Secretary Eddie Doyle. This has been a long season for this team who still remain unbeaten in the league. Colm Lane and Pat Kelly would like to thank a few people for their help and support for the season.
