Ballincollig Afc travelled to Blarney last Sunday morning in the Local cup where Jason O’Connell team won 4-1 against Blarney United, this win see’s Ballincollig’s fine winning streak continue, First goal came from Olan Dorgan after 10 minutes which was well deserved as Olan was clearly the best player on the pitch in the first half for Ballincollig, the second half start was delayed about 20 minutes due to heavy Hail stone showers, When the second half started Ballincollig drove on right where they left off, substitutes Eoin Sugrue and Sean Thompson came on to strengthen the squad and a few minutes after Karl Tannian got in and scored to make it 2-0, shortly after Rilwan Eleke’s shot for the edge of the box dipped in over the keeper to bring it 3-0 to Ballincollig, with about 15 minutes remaining Blarney scored but any hope of a come back was off as Sean Kiely netted Ballincollig’s fourth goal to see his side through to the last 32 in the cup. Overall everyone played well but who stood out the most for Ballincollig was captain Edward Ross, Olan Dorgan and Karl Tannian.

Martin O'Neill (Delta). Rest in Peace

November 26th, 2013 | Filed Under: Bereavements + Uncategorized | Comments Off

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of our friend Martin O' Neill ( Delta).
Martin was a true Ballincollig AFC stalwart, a great servant to the club throughout the decades serving as a coach, manager, administrator and as long serving Vice Chairman. His dedication, passion and hard work for the club was truly inspirational and remains a benchmark for others to aspire to. A tireless advocate and publicist for the club he actively encouraged many others to get involved over the years .A legendary figure for Ballincollig AFC and we are forever grateful for everything he did for this club. He was a great football man but more significantly a great family man.  Our thoughts prayers and condolences at this time are with his wife Attracta, and children Martin, Yvonne ,Aoife and Cathal. We also remember Martin’s late daughter Sylvia at this time.

Ballincollig 2  Youghal 0. Ballincollig Sponsored by Sams Bar

editing the essay

Ballincollig travelled to Youghal on Friday evening and returned with all 3 points. Ballincollig had learned lesson from losing their first Keane cup match to youghal. The management team got their tactics spot on , putting 5 in midfield to stop youghal advancing through the middle. Ballincollig got off to a great start with Jason Murphy closing down their goalkeeper, stealing the ball from him and slotting  it away to give Ballincollig 1-0 lead after only few minutes. Soon after things got even better for the away side, Ballincollig finding themselves two to the good when Jason Murphy converted a penalty after he himself had been taken down. Youghal  then began to get into game and had a few chances although nothing clean cut as the  Ballincollig rearguard held strong, Colin Moore stuck a great shot and narrowly over and then two minutes later he had volley  narrowly wide. Jason Murphy also hit the cross bar after a great cross from Ian Roche . The second half started with youghal coming out with attacking intent but the Ballincollig defence were equal to them. The away side were happy to  counter attack when they created more chances with Jason Murphy going close again. Eric lynch also found himself well up the pitch only to be repelled by a fine save. Ballincollig  however held out and won 2-0 . It was a great team performance . Jason Murphy  worked well up front on his own , Sean Hogan impressive once more in goal directing his defensive lines. Jason o Leary and Dan Murphy were outstanding at the back with John lawor and Eric lynch working hard.In midfield Gary Foolkes made a welcome return from injury and  did a great job in a holding midfield role, with Morgan o Mahony and Colin Moore in front of him pressuring Youghal and getting forward as much as they could. Ian Roche and Gavin Moore worked up and the line all evening supplying great crosses and creating a lot of Ballincollig’s chances. Micky Mac and Ken Murray kept up the performance level when they came on. Another win secured and this team look forward to their next outing.

Tremendous performances from Philip Desmond, Kevin O’ Regan, and Daniel Byrne. This was an excellent team Performance. This team look to be coming into their own now. Keep an eye on them!

Ballincollig Cruelly Denied Cup Final Place

In desperate conditions on Saturday Ballincollig went into this game as distinct underdogs against Premier League opposition. Nonetheless throughout the first period there was very little between the two teams. Ballincollig at times showed more attacking vigour against a very well organised and resolute Corinthians back four. Ballincollig conceded on the 22nd minute when the home defence expecting an offside call failed to react, the College Corinthians forward taking advantage of confusion in the back four to head home . From there on in however Ballincollig worked tirelessly to get back in the game. They should have had a clear penalty shortly after the goal when Dan Murphy was pushed to the ground in the box, the infringement somehow going unnoticed by both the Ref and the nearside linesman. Ballincollig continues to press for an equalizer before halftime and looked to have secured same on the 40th minute when an Ian Roche shot looked sure to nestle in the bottom left corner of the net before a Corinthians defender slid across to make a last ditch clearance. After half time Ballincollig maintained their pressure with a number of close chances. Their tireless efforts were finally rewarded when the reliable Richard O’ Brien netted the leveler on 81 minutes. This brought the game into extra time and with little between the times it looked like the stalemate would continue. Some three minutes before the end of extra time however Corinthians scored. It was a wretched conclusion to an outstanding Ballincollig performance. The Club are immensely proud of all the players who were an absolute credit to their jerseys. Now the focus is back to the league where this team have every chance of prospering
